Nickel-cadmium batteries are better known as NiCad or rechargeable batteries. They are made of two thin plates of nickel oxy-hydroxide and cadmium which are flattened together and rolled up into a cylinder shape. The nickel oxy-hydroxide acts as the anode, and the cadmium acts as the cathode. The catalyst is the electrolyte fluid which fills the battery, known as potassium hydroxide. This causes an electrical charge to build between the anode and the cathode.

The alkaline battery can take the square or cylindrical form that we all know so well. The contents are contained safely within a steel casing. The cathode, which is the negative part of the battery, is a compressed mixture of manganese dioxide paste and carbon powder. The center of the cathode is hollow and lines with a conductive separator to prevent the cathode and anode materials from mixing, but allowing their varying electrical potentials to pass from one to the other. The anode is the positive part of the battery and contained within the center of the cathode. It’s a gel of potassium hydroxide and zinc powder.

Here is info on dewalt 18 volt battery recall. WASHINGTON, D.C. – In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), DEWALT® Industrial Tool Co., of Baltimore, Md., is recalling for repair about 755,000 DEWALT® 18-volt battery packs (model DW9095) for use with various battery-operated tools. The battery packs’ clips can come loose, causing the battery packs to fall. When working with these tools, falling battery packs weighing about 2.2 pounds can cause injury.

DEWALT® has received 53 reports of battery packs falling from tools. There have been five reports of injuries, including a battery pack striking a consumer on the head.

The recalled DEWALT® 18-volt battery packs are model number DW9095. This model number is located on the name plate on the bottom of the battery. These battery packs have date codes from 9719 to 9810 located on the top of the battery pack. The battery packs are black with “DEWALT,” and “18V” in yellow on the sides of the packs.

Major home centers and hardware stores, as well as industrial distributors, sold battery packs nationwide from May 1997 through June 1998 for between $70 and $85.

Consumers should immediately stop using the battery packs, and call DEWALT® for a free repair kit toll-free at (877) 457-0478 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or go to the company’s web site at http://www.dewalt.com.

Battery packs with an “R” etched after the date code or with a red dot on the name plate already have been repaired and are not included in this recall.

A wet cell is a galvanic electrochemical cell with a liquid electrolyte. Below you will find a diagram of wet cell battery. A dry cell, on the other hand, is a cell with a pasty electrolyte. Wet cells were a precursor to dry cells and are commonly used as a learning tool for electro chemistry. It is often built with common laboratory supplies, like beakers, for demonstrations of how electrochemical cells work. A particular type of wet cell known as a concentration cell is important in understanding corrosion. Wet cells may be primary cells (non-rechargeable) or secondary cells (rechargeable).

The echo 1 peq 2 battery box is a mock laser unit which lets you house a higher capacity battery on the exterior of your gun while still maintaining a realistic look. The battery for this is a 9.6v 1400mah battery pack. The normal M4 or M733 holds only a 9.6v 1200mah battery pack. I suggest buying a crane stock (not the ECHO 1 crane stock upgrade, and actual crane stock) if you have the money (crane stocks are expensive) so you can house the crane stock 9.6v 3300mah battery. I hope shorty’s replaces the 3300mah cells with 4200mah cells.
